Keralit Care Paste Undercover to prevent horn decomposition processes

Keralit's Undercover Care Paste is used to prevent horn decomposition in ponies and horses on the white line (white line disease), frog, sole, shanks, and hollow walls. It's particularly suitable for orthopedic shoes with hoof inserts and silicone pads. It provides protection throughout the entire shoeing period.

Keralit Undercover is a well-adhering, solid hoof care paste consisting of herbal spices such as turmeric and highly dispersed mineral substances as well as bark extracts from various tree species such as oak bark.

The ointment base ensures a consistent release of the active ingredients over 6-8 weeks. Keralit Undercover is specifically designed to prevent and treat callus decomposition in the white line, sole, shank, and frog areas.

The same applies to horn columns and hollow walls. Keralitundercover releases anti-rot agents throughout the entire shoeing period. This occurs more frequently when moisture from outside penetrates under the shoe, such as from washing the hooves or from the bedding.

When using Keralit Undercover, the environment beneath the plate and silicone is altered over the shoeing period so that decomposition processes caused by ammonia or microorganisms can no longer occur. Foul-smelling rot is prevented, and the horn is safely stabilized. Keralit Undercover contains no iodoform or copper compounds.

Simple, unproblematic processing
Keralit Undercover is simply applied to the resulting cavities after trimming and removing any loose, decaying horn. For horseshoes with plates and silicone inserts, the sole and frog can also be coated. The rest of the shoeing process is carried out as usual.

Throat problems and sensible throat treatment in open stables
Keralit Undercover is also often used to prevent and treat horn decomposition in the frog area. It is particularly suitable for horses kept in open stables or paddocks, as it remains in the frog grooves for several days and adheres to them even in wet weather. Daily treatment is therefore not necessary.

Hollow and loose walls
Successes also contradict conventional wisdom. Amazingly good results for extreme and long-standing wall and thrush problems can be achieved by shoeing these hooves with plastic plates and silicone inserts using Keralit Undercover.

Without the use of Keralit Undercover, shoeing with plates and silicone filling is not appropriate for hooves with poor horn quality, as the damaging microorganisms (bacteria and fungi) multiply and decompose the horn in a confined space without light and air. However, some horses rely on orthopedic shoes to treat tendon or joint problems, even though severe horn decomposition is present in the wall and frog area. These problems cannot be controlled with other, standard shoes.

In these specific cases, Keralit Undercover, in combination with a closed plastic plate with a silicone filling, has proven ideal. The use of Keralit Undercover creates an environment in the small space between the hoof horn and the silicone that reliably prevents further horn decomposition, even for 7-8 weeks. The silicone filling prevents the undercover from falling out, and dirt and moisture from the bedding cannot enter. The hoof can grow back healthily. It is applied as described above. It should be noted that some horses require an adjustment period of several days when switching to shoeing with a plate and silicone. A relatively soft silicone (such as "Wolke 7" by Luwex) is advantageous for sensitive horses.
