Omega 3 fatty acids: what are they and where do they come from?
Fatty acids are called "essential" because they cannot be synthesized or produced by the body. They are therefore just as "essential" as vitamins.

There are two types of Omega 3 fatty acids:

• The long-chain (EPA/DHA) fatty acids are of marine origin (algae, fish) or those derived from vegetable oils (flax, camelina). The EPA/DHA Omega 3 fatty acids are also referred to as the "active" fatty acids.
• The short-chain omega-3 fatty acids (ALA – alpha-linolenic acid), which are found exclusively in fresh plants, are the precursors that are converted into long-chain omega-3 fatty acids in the body with the help of enzymes. ALA has relatively low bioavailability in the body. Therefore, you need to consume a lot of it to achieve a relevant level of omega-3 fatty acids.

A pasture horse therefore absorbs a lot of alpha-linolenic acid and thus achieves an ideal ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 of 4:1.

For this important reason, Omega Power is a concentrate of long-chain Omega 3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) of marine origin, balanced with cold-pressed vegetable oil rich in alpha-linolenic acid. Thus, 15 ml of Omega Power is equivalent to 240 ml of linseed oil (known and valued for its high content of the Omega 3 fatty acid ALA (alpha-linolenic acid).

A reduction in nervousness, anxiety, and lack of confidence can be observed very regularly in horses when supplementing with Omega Power. The horse's mental state is strengthened without any agitating effect. The horse neither becomes heated nor quick to flee, but is simply clear-headed!

One of the biggest challenges for any owner of a performance horse is the prevention and control of inflammatory joint diseases.
Initially, inflammation affects only the soft connective tissue of the joint following repeated trauma or high stress on the joint (for example, in reining horses, the fetlock joints, knees, and hocks are subject to constant stress).
Horses that receive Omega 3 fatty acids in their feed are therefore better prepared for intensive physical work thanks to their anti-inflammatory effect.
It is estimated that an intake of 8-15 g of long-chain Omega 3 fatty acids per day is justified in view of the physiological condition of the horse.

Numerous publications have highlighted the protective role of omega-3 fatty acids in the prevention of heart disease. Although they have no effect on cholesterol levels themselves, they are otherwise very important in reducing the risk of heart and cardiovascular disease. They lower triglyceride and fat levels in the blood, reduce cardiac arrhythmias, prevent the formation of arteriosclerosis, and maintain elastic vascular walls.
