The Sweet Iron Baby Pelham bit from Trust has shorter bars than a normal Pelham. The shorter lever travel means that the aids are given faster and more directly than with a standard Pelham. The pressure is distributed from the tongue to the lower jaw, the leverage of the bars to the poll, and from the curb chain to the lower jaw. The pressure on the poll is significantly less with a Baby Pelham due to the shorter bars. The Baby Pelham is suitable for horses that become particularly strong and boisterous, as well as for more subtle aids. This bit requires good training from both rider and horse. The Sweet Iron Baby Pelham can be used with a Pelham strap/bridge for one rein, or for advanced training without a Pelham strap/bridge with two reins. The curb chain should not exceed an angle of 45 degrees between the bar and the corner of the mouth. Use with a soft curb chain pad is recommended to protect the sensitive skin on the horse's lower jaw. Pelham bits should be chosen half to one size smaller.
The single-jointed bit consists of two pieces that rest in the horse's mouth, each with a bit thickness of 16 mm. With a single-jointed bit, the horse has more tongue freedom than with a double-jointed bit. This creates more pressure on the bars and the sides of the tongue.
The Trust Sweet Iron bit develops surface rust through contact with (atmospheric) moisture, which has a sweet taste and naturally stimulates saliva production. This causes the horse to foam more, which in turn leads to better acceptance of the bit. Due to the rusting process (oxidation), the blue color of the Trust bits turns brownish-gray over time.
If a Sweet Iron bit isn't used for a while, an orange-brown layer of rust can form on the mouthpiece. This layer can easily be wiped off with a damp cloth. Of course, surface rust isn't harmful to the horse.
Every Trust bit is entirely handmade in the Netherlands. All components are welded and polished by hand. The Sweet Iron acquires its beautiful deep blue color by briefly heating it. The finishing touch is the hand-hammering of the size stamp and brand name.
Delivery includes a towel for easy storage of the Trust dentures.
