Trust Sweet Iron curb bit with small tongue clearance

The Sweet Iron dressage curb bit from Trust Equestrian with a small tongue clearance has 7 cm long bars and a bit thickness of 16 mm. The longer lever stroke slows down the application of the aids and reduces the movement of the rider's hand on the horse's tongue. The pressure is distributed from the tongue to the lower jaw, the leverage of the bars to the poll, and from the curb chain to the lower jaw. The pressure on the poll is significantly higher with a curb bit, so its use requires advanced training for both rider and horse.

The small tongue clearance on the straight curb bar ensures less pressure on the middle of the tongue and space for your pony or horse's tongue.

Since the curb bit sits below the snaffle bit in the horse's mouth, where the mouth also narrows, the curb bit should always be half to a full size smaller than the snaffle bit. The curb bit should sit directly against the horse's mouth without pressing or pinching.

The curb chain should not exceed an angle of 45 degrees between the collar and the corner of the mouth. Use with a soft curb chain pad is recommended to protect the sensitive skin on the horse's lower jaw. Curb bits should be chosen half to one size smaller.

The Trust Sweet Iron bit develops surface rust through contact with (atmospheric) moisture, which has a sweet taste and naturally stimulates saliva production. This causes the horse to foam more, which in turn leads to better acceptance of the bit. Due to the rusting process (oxidation), the blue color of the Trust bits turns brownish-gray over time.
If a Sweet Iron bit isn't used for a while, an orange-brown layer of rust can form on the mouthpiece. This layer can easily be wiped off with a damp cloth. Of course, surface rust isn't harmful to the horse.

Every Trust bit is entirely handmade in the Netherlands. All components are welded and polished by hand. The Sweet Iron acquires its beautiful deep blue color by briefly heating it. The finishing touch is the hand-hammering of the size stamp and brand name.

Delivery includes curb chain, curb chain hook and Trust towel for easy storage of the Trust bit.

ePony Tip: Buy the matching Trust Equestrian snaffle bit in Sweet Iron at the same time and make sure to choose the curb bit in a smaller bit size.
